How can a deeper understanding of my inner drivers help me respond with more empathy?
Using insights from your Discovery Experience to Improve Connection
Many clients describe the Discovery Experience as eye-opening and affirming. After reviewing their composite, they often say, “This really is me.” The next question naturally follows: How can this help my family?
One client, “Rachel,” discovered her composite showed little alignment with the Artistic Creativity archetype, while her adult daughter, “Kate,” showed a strong creative drive. Over time, this difference created tension. Kate regularly refreshed her home based on what felt inspiring, while Rachel valued practicality, durability, and long-term use. Though well-intended, Rachel’s comments often came across as critical.
During a family session, Rachel realized Kate wasn’t being impulsive—she was meeting a real need to create. With a demanding, structured career, Kate’s home had become her primary outlet for expression. That insight changed everything. Rachel’s responses shifted from questioning to curiosity and affirmation, and their connection deepened through small, daily changes.
This is one example of how understanding core motivations can transform everyday interactions and strengthen family relationships.

How can imposing our “operating system” on others strain relationships?
Clean Dishes, Messy Feelings: A Dishwasher Confession
Do you have a loved one who you adore but sometimes drives you absolutely nuts? For me, that realization came during a daily household chore.
I used to believe there was a right way to load the dishwasher; thoughtful placement, efficient spray patterns, and strategic organization. Then I talked with someone I deeply respect who said, “Who cares? The dishes are clean, aren’t they?”
At first, my inner voice shouted, “I care!” Then came the reflection: Does it really matter? The goal is clean dishes. My “right way” only matters to me.
That small moment of reflection opened my eyes to something much bigger. How often do we impose our “operating systems” on others, even our loved ones?
How does our imposition alter the daily experience of another? When we pause to understand how different “operating systems” change individual processes, we create space for empathy, better communication, and harmony.
The Discovery Experience helps uncover your personal “operating system,” giving you new lenses to understand yourself and others, even the “any which way” dishwasher loaders in your life. Sometimes the biggest lessons come from the smallest moments.

How can a small shift in your awareness change the energy in the room?
Creating Constructive Interference
Constructive vs. Destructive Interference
The type of wave you are makes all the difference.
Marine conservationist Rob Algar explains the distinction:
• Constructive waves build coastlines. They roll in smoothly, with longer wavelengths and lower frequency, and are typically associated with calm conditions.
• Destructive waves erode coastlines. They carry higher energy, arrive during storms, and create crushing, forceful motion.
This same dynamic shows up in human interactions.
Think about a meeting, family gathering, or social event where you’ve done a little people-watching. Some people are natural “crowd surfers.” When they enter a group, the energy rises but stays fluid and comfortable. Their presence aligns with the group’s rhythm, shared interests, or complementary strengths. They create constructive interference by meeting the moment and elevating it.
Others arrive with just as much energy, but on a very different frequency. Instead of enhancing the group, they disrupt it. Conversations stall. Common ground disappears. What once felt easy suddenly feels forced. That’s destructive interference—and it can feel like a storm rolled in without warning.
The good news? If you don’t naturally match the energy around you—or don’t yet understand it—small, intentional adjustments can make a big difference. Awareness, curiosity, and practice help us navigate the many personal and professional “oceans” we encounter.
You may never be a professional crowd surfer but you can become a good one.
And that journey begins with discovery.
